Imphal:
Imphal
is the capital city of Manipur. It is situated at the heart of the State
surrounded by hills on all sides with amazing landscapes, valleys, streams and
lakes. It is the center of cultural and
commercial and political activities of the state. It has all the amenities having good schools,
colleges and universities, hospitals, hotels, cinema halls playgrounds and
shopping malls. The place is famous for its scenic beauty and pleasant climate
for stay throughout the year.
Churachandpur:
It is the second largest town in Manipur
situated about 60 Km away from Imphal City. It is
the head quarter of Churachandpur District. The main attractions of the
district are the Khuga Dam (which is 7 km south of the town), Tonglon Cave
(which is 32 km south of the town), Cheklaphai (Singhat), Behiang, Tipaimukh
etc.
Tamenglong:
It is 156 Km away from Imphal – known for its
roaring waterfalls, deep gorges, pitching dark caves and exotic orchids and
enchanting lakes. It is the head quarter of Tamenglong District. The main
attractions of the district are the Tharon Cave, Zailand Lake, Barak Waterfalls
etc.
Ukhrul:
It
is the head quarter of Ukhrul District which is 83 Km away from Imphal City.
The scenic beauty and cool, pleasant climate make Ukhrul, a beautiful hill
station for the tourists. Siroi Hills and Khangkhui Lime
Caves are interesting places for excursions.
Chandel:
Chandel is the district head quarter of
Chandel District (formerly known as Tengnoupal District). It is situated about
64 km away from Imphal city. Some of the famous place like Tengnoupal (highest
peak in the district), Moreh (International Market Place) are situated in this
district.
Moreh:
It
is the border town between Manipur and Myanmar situated 110 Km away from
Imphal. Tourists visiting here can avail of tours into Myanmarese towns of
Mandalay and Kalimiew.
Mao:
It is one of the important hill stations of
Manipur situated on the Imphal Kohima Road. One may find varieties of fresh
vegetables and fruits produced from hill villages in and around Mao.
Bishnupur:
It is 27 Km away from Imphal where the
conical temple of lord Vishnu built in 1467 during the region of King Kyamba is
situated. It is the head quarter of Bishnupur District.
Jiribam:
Jiribam
is a small city situated at the westernmost side of the state. It is also said
to be the western Gateway of Manipur since it is the only railway station of
the state. Jiribam is located in the Imphal East
district of Manipur with 24.80°N 93.12°E at an elevation of about 30 meters
above the sea level. The city is around 220 Km from the state capital
city Imphal. It is located on the Manipur-Assam border. Jiribam derives
its name from the Jiri River that flows through the city. The place has
beautiful mountains, valleys, rivers and streams. The region is rich in forest
resources like cane and bamboo, timber, brooms etc. and a variety of plants
having medicinal values.
Leimakhong:
Leimakhong
is a small town situated in the Senapati district. It is about 20 km away from
the state capital Imphal. The town derives its name
from the Leimakhong River that flows near it. It is the headquarter of 57
Mountain Division of the Indian Army. The place has all amenities like Banks,
Schools, Markets, Power Plant etc. Leimakhong is located at an altitude of
about 1700 meters above sea level. The Rajeev Memorial Park or simply
"Rajeev Park", a tribute to the local hero, Late 2nd Lt Rajeev Sandhu, Maha Vir Chakra is
constructed inside this place.
