WILDLIFE SANCTUARIES


Manipur is also an ideal getaway for wildlife enthusiasts – an amazing variety of animals and birds are found in these lush terrains. These include the Barbacked Pheasant, Blyths Tragopan the Sloe Loris, the Clauded Leopard, Hoolock Gibbon, Burmese Pea-Fowl, the Spotted Linshang, different species of Hornbills etc. The most unique Sangai, dancing deer and a type of salamander known as 'Lengwa' found at the foothill of Siroi in Ukhrul (one of the highest hill-stations) are also part of its rich natural reserve.

A.  Protected Area network in Manipur:


 1. Keibul Lamjao National Park.
 2. Yangoupokpi Lakchao Wildlife Sanctuary.
 3. Orchid Preservation Plot, Khongampat.
 4. Iroisenba, the second home of Sangai.

B. Protected Areas initially declared as Wildlife Sanctuary:


 1. Keilam Wildlife Sanctuary.
 2. Zeliad Wildlife Sanctuary.
