TRADITIONAL DRESSES
The traditional dresses of Manipur consist of a Phanek (Mekhala – a wrap
around cloth), Innaphi (shawl), Sarong – a stiff skirt type. Innaphis worn by
Manipuri women are much similar to the modern wrap around skirt. The
Phanek is usually worn with a blouse. The women
of Manipur wear different clothes at different festivals. For example, on the
occasion of Ras Leela, they wear the Potlois and Kumins. During dance based
festivals Koks and Phurits etc. are worn. Different tribes of Manipur have
their own distinctive dresses which can be easily identified the designs and
colors of their dresses. During festivals these tribes wear their respective
traditional tribal dress especially while performing dance.
